Poinsettia Fires (Carlsbad) - 2014

We had a wild brush fire that erupted on Wednesday (May 14,  2014) that came literally too close to our neighborhood and home. We were told to evacuate and did so on Wednesday morning taking a few belongings with us. We rushed to get the kids from schools and seek refuge with our friends. We finally decided to spend the night in San Diego downtown and turn this very stressful and unfortunate event into a mini vacation. The kids were very excited about the whole "adventure" part of it. Bulent and I were calm and optimistic. We got back home the next day around noon. The Poinsettia Fire had been partially contained and our houses were intact ! On Friday I drove around and got to witness the devastation around us. We have sincerely dodged a bullet. If the winds had changed direction the fire would have just ravaged our neighborhood. Here are a few photos from news organizations that were taken from the streets adjacent to ours.

This photo is from the neighborhood up the street.

Me and the girls in exile in San Diego….

On a lighter note:
Alya is really making progress with her  "I'm going to teach myself how to swim" decision :-)
